Aldi donating non-surplus food to FoodCloud during pandemic

Aldi has become the first retailer in Ireland to donate non-surplus products to FoodCloud, a redistribution hub that works with charities across Ireland to help those in need.

The service has been inundated during the pandemic, and Aldi’s donation has allowed FoodCloud to support 17 new food hubs in 15 counties.

Aldi has also supported FoodCloud financially through a donation of €50,000 of food, equating to an extra 4,000 meals a week.

Commenting on the news, Iseult Ward, CEO of FoodCloud, said: “More and more charities have been seeking our services since the start of the pandemic.

“Thanks to the early donation by Aldi of €50,000 of non-surplus stock, we have been able to create new partnerships with Local Development Companies, ensuring ongoing distribution to those in need as the economic fallout of COVID-19 continues to take its toll on communities.

“We will continue helping charities and communities in need across Ireland, and donations such as Aldi’s are a great help to us.”
