Heading for success in 2019 with Top Oil, a trusted fuel partner

Dealer Johnny Brady tells IF&CR why Top Oil switching to Top Oil was the best move he could have made.

2018 has been a year of various challenges for many forecourt and convenience retailers across the island of Ireland, with uncertainties over Brexit and how it will affect trade creating concern. However, for Johnny Brady, the future looks bright following his recent partnership with Top Oil.

“The support I received from Top Oil when changing over was second to none. They made me feel really welcome and they’re great to work with.”

“At the time, I was talking to three or four other fuel companies, but Top Oil stood out for me. They offered the best deal for the business, and were the most keen to have us on board. I found their fuel prices to be really reasonable, and their service was excellent.”

Top Oil is a progressive, customer focused business with a 200 year trading history. The company own and manage its own 55,000 tonne import terminal in Dublin and sells over 1.3bn litres of fuel throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland every year.

Top Oil provides a true end-to-end solution, from ‘Port-To-Pump’ and all the points in between. This ensures security of supply of the best Quality Assured fuel products for Irish motorists across the country.

For Johnny Brady, partnering with a fuel company that brings the benefits of  years of experience under their belt was vital.

“I’ve been in the forecourt and convenience business for years. I started working in my family business, before branching out independently with my own state of the art petrol station twenty two years ago.”

“I own three petrol stations across the greater Dublin area. The most recent build is the one in Spawell, Dublin. We purchased it around 10 years ago, and have invested heavily in the site ever since.”

“In total, we’ve probably spent around £500,000 sprucing it up last year. It now has the biggest car wash in Ireland, as well as an excellent convenience store to meet every consumer need.”

Alongside the fuel rebranding, the convenient stores in the forecourts have also experienced significant face lifts to keep up to date with modern consumers.

“We have a brilliant hot and cold deli counter in our Spawell site, and a Chopped healthy food bar to keep up to date with the healthy eating trend that most convenience stores are taking on. We aim to be a place that gives people options, and plenty of choice.”

“The other site in the north of Dublin is Claremount filling station. It’s seen a lot of work over the years too. Top Oil gave it that much needed boost too in terms of appearance and competitive fuel prices.”

“We’ve recently bought 4 acres of land right behind the property that we plan to develop over the next few months. By September this year, the new, revamped site should be up and running. We’re really excited about that.”

“The station that has improved the most since Top Oil took over is in Clondalkin. They transformed the place and took care of everything. The site logistics, the signage, the deliveries, you name it. They really wanted to give the sites a real face lift – and that’s exactly what they did.”

“Top Oil’s branding is very striking. Their fresh, green colours and signage really stood out to me. They were nothing but professional from the word go, and during the transition period they never came up short.”

For Top Oil, the bedrock of their success is their committed team. They pride themselves on being personable and building long-term, lasting relationships with their clients.

The motivation behind the decades of dedication Top Oil has given to Ireland’s oil industry is the communities they serve, from cities to rural heartlands. The company says it is those communities that are most important to them, driving the team to achieve more for their customers every year.

Johnny says Top Oil made the transition of changing fuel partners as easy as possible.

“It can be a really challenging time changing hands from one brand to another. Having one brand over your site one day and putting up a different one the next can be an awkward move. But Top Oil has been really supportive in the change. I was able to meet the main team players when I came on board, which was really important to me. Understanding that running this business is a team effort and they value your partnership is really reassuring.”

Martin Daly, Top Oil Sales & Acquisition Director is delighted to welcome Johnny to the Top network “Johnny is a valued addition to our network of retail sites. His experience in the forecourt retailing sector will be a great benefit to our family of retailers and we look forward to working with him to grow the business into the future”

Mr Brady is hopeful that the New Year will bring further success. With exciting projects on the horizon and a fuel company he trusts, Johnny looks ahead to 2019 with anticipation and confidence.

“2018 was certainly a tough year for us. The roller-coaster of Brexit affected our sales. When there is a tightening of cash across the country, convenience retailers feel it first, and we definitely did. The fluctuating weather throughout the year with numerous hurricanes and storms keeping people off the roads also hasn’t been helpful for business.”

“But we’re hopeful for 2019. With new site refurbishments on the horizon, and new developments, we look forward to the year ahead with a fuel company we’re proud to partner with.”
