Independent Galway-based grocer Joyce’s Supermarkets is celebrating 70 years in business this week – with a range of special price promotions planned for customers.

The first shop was opened by Patrick C Joyce in 1951, starting as a small operation from a room at Church Road in Headford. The company now employs over 500 people in the county across ten supermarkets and a central warehouse in Claregalway.

“Seventy years is a notable achievement and milestone for our family business. While the retail environment has shifted over the years, community remains at the heart of the operations at Joyce’s Supermarkets.

“We are grateful for the support of our customers, including generations of the same families that would have who gotten their weekly shop from the ‘travelling shop’ sixty and seventy years ago. We look forward to continuing to serve the local community” said managing director Patrick Joyce.

Joyce’s Supermarkets operates ten supermarkets in Galway, with branches in Headford, Knocknacarra, Athenry, Tuam, Inverin, Ballybane, Fr. Griffin Road, Doughiska, Oranmore and Oughterard.
