€100k Cantina opens at Thomond Park

Cantina, the authentic Mexican street food experience by Topaz, has opened just opposite Thomond Park in Co Limerick.

The store involved a €100,000 investment and the creation of six new jobs, and the opening was attended by Alan Quinlan, Munster Rugby legend and Cantina brand ambassador.

Cantina Thomond Park is the fourth outlet to open and the first outside Dublin. The opening is part of plans by the Irish fuel and convenience retailer, Topaz, to open a further nine Cantina food outlets at its forecourts across the country.

Topaz say Cantina is the first food outlet of its kind on an Irish forecourt. Its menu consists of of Mexican favourites, like the taco: made from soft shelled taco’s which can be filled with an option of Chorizo Con Carne (Irish, lean mince simmered in Mexican herbs and spices); Beef Barbacoa (seasoned Irish beef slow cooked until tender); or Chicken Asada (soft strips of chicken marinated in fresh lime and chillies).

Speaking at the launch, head of marketing at Topaz, MJ Tierney, said: “This marks the official arrival of Cantina to Limerick, the first Mexican taqueria as part of a forecourt offering in Ireland.

“I am delighted to be here at the Cantina Thomond launch and announce that we are bringing six new jobs to our service station here at Thomondgate.

“Cantina Thomond will deliver a unique Mexican street food experience to sports fans and local residents and commuters. We look forward to providing the best Mexican food experience here for many years to come!”

Alan Quinlan added: ‘’I’m thrilled to be here in Limerick to open the new Cantina Thomondgate outlet. This is a fantastic addition to the area and I for one plan to stop off here en route to Thomond Park to fuel up with some authentic Mexican street food ahead of some crucial Munster rugby matches in the coming weeks.”

To celebrate the opening of Cantina Thomond, consumers can avail of €2 off any main course and a drink throughout the month of April.

Ahead of Munster’s much anticipated clash against Toulouse, Alan Quinlan will be on hand to serve up an authentic Mexican street food experience to hungry rugby fans between 2pm and 3pm on Saturday, 1 April.

Rugby supporters, residents, and commuters are encouraged to sample the Cantina offer and meet the Munster legend himself.
