The Barry Group – proud parents of the Costcutter group in Ireland – are celebrating 21 years since its first Costcutter store opened.

The Barry Group’s first Costcutter opened in 2000 – Shay Doherty’s Costcutter in Whitehall, Dublin. By the end of that year there was 22 established Costcutter stores across the country.

Costcutter has also announced it is helping promote a healthier future for Ireland’s athletes through its support for Triathlon Ireland’s youth programmes.

Under a new agreement, Costcutter will become ‘Official Retail Partner to Triathlon Ireland’ and the official supporter of all of Triathlon Ireland’s youth and kids’ activities.

Triathlon Ireland Youth Series

The partnership has been announced a few weeks short of the start of Triathlon Ireland’s first-ever Youth Series – a summer-long series of triathlons for 12 to 17-year-olds in locations right around the country, the retailer said.

The Youth Series, supported by Costcutter, marks the first time the sport has launched a nationwide competition for young people and reflects the substantial growth in youth triathlon in recent years.

Jim Barry, managing director of the Barry Group, the parent company of Costcutter, Jim Barry said “To have the opportunity to work with such a progressive organization that is rooted in communities, like Costcutter, is a perfect alignment for us. In such a momentous year for the brand as we celebrate Costcutter’s 21st birthday, we look forward to getting to work with these athletes.”
