Sligo-based health food company Good4U welcomed the British Ambassador to Ireland, Kara Owen, to its manufacturing hub in Finisklin as part of a wider tour of Sligo and Mayo highlighting the innovation, talent and ambition shaping the North West region. In response to continued success, the company is investing €2 million in facilities, automation and future capability to support the next phase of growth.

The meeting formed part of Ambassador Owen’s ongoing programme of regional engagements across Ireland, which has seen her connect with businesses, schools, communities and public representatives while exploring the deep and enduring connections that exist between Ireland and the UK.

Sligo success story

During her visit to Good4U, Ambassador Owen met with the company’s leadership team to learn more about the family-owned business, its commitment to innovation and its success in building a strong presence across both Irish and UK markets. The conversation turned to the UK-Ireland 2030 programme and what closer trade ties could mean for Irish food makers.

Founded by Bernie and her daughters in 2004, Good4U has grown to become one of the UK and Ireland’s leading health food companies with a product range spanning more than 40 products including Sprouts, Salad Toppers, Protein Balls and more. Today, the family business is led by Bernie Butler, alongside the next generation – Michelle, Laura, Karol and Emma Butler. Each brings a unique professional background and complementary expertise, combining their skills to drive innovation, strengthen the business and support its continued growth.

The business employs 41 people across its Sligo and Tyrone manufacturing hubs and supplies retail, convenience and foodservice customers across Ireland and the UK. Its products are stocked in more than 6,000 outlets, including Tesco, Dunnes Stores, SuperValu, Centra, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Morrisons, Coop and Ocado. More than 80% of company sales are generated through export markets, while innovation, manufacturing and product development remain firmly rooted in the North West.

Bernie Butler, Founder and Managing Director of Good4U, said: “It was a privilege to welcome Ambassador Owen to Good4U this morning, and to represent Sligo as part of her regional visit. As someone who has consistently championed women in leadership, the Ambassador’s visit was particularly meaningful to our family. The UK is a really important market for Good4U, so it was a wonderful opportunity to share our journey, our plans for growth and the role that such partnerships continue to play in that success. We look forward to another Cead Mile Failte to our ambassador Owens on the completion of our capital investment project in early 2027.”

During her time in Sligo, Ambassador Owen also visited The Model to learn more about the region’s cultural landscape before continuing her programme of engagements in County Mayo.
