RGDATA calls for compensation for shop owners of retail crime as Crime Survey 2024 gets media attention
Tara Buckley, RGDATA Director General highlighted the need for custodial sentences for serial offenders to combat the shoplifting epidemic impacting on local shops throughout the country, protection of retail workers and compensation for shop owners that are victims of crime in print and broadcast media interviews on the RGDATA Crime Survey 2024.
Over 90pc of retailers were victims of crime in the last year
RGDATA called on gardaí and the Government to ‘up their game’ with measures to protect retail sector. Shoplifting accounts for 97%, fraud of counterfeit goods accounts for 37% and burglary or robbery accounting for 16%.
