PostPoint outlines plans for development

Pearl Clark, retail product director, An Post speaks to Ireland’s Forecourt & Convenience Retailer about PostPoint continued development over 2017.

In 2017 PostPoint continued to broaden our product portfolio and diversifying outside of our core market of convenience retailers. In addition to our primary products of mobile phone top up, bill payment, Gift Cards and stamps, last year we launched two new services for our retail stores; prepaid gas and National Lottery fast-play. Outside of convenience, our Debit and Credit Card Payment Solution has gone from strength to strength. In 2018, we hope to extend further the range of services available through PostPoint by adding new collection and return services from An Post.

Debit and Credit Card Payments

The biggest area of growth for PostPoint over the last 18 months has been our Debit and Credit Card Payments solution. PostPoint’s offer has been received extremely well by retailers. Our clear and transparent pricing and our shorter 6 month contracts are proving very popular with all categories of business owners. We are now working with small and medium sized Irish businesses from all types of industries and sectors, including dentists, hotels, pharmacies, barbers, crèches and cafés.

New services launched in 2017

PostPoint’s recent introduction of prepaid electricity and prepaid gas is proving very popular, particularly with students and renters. It gives customers more options and more ways to pay. With prepaid gas or electricity, consumers might top up every week in-store to keep control over their utilities, which is bringing the consumer into PostPoint shops four times in a month.

The Lottery fast-play function allows retailers to offer their consumers some of the most popular National Lottery games through their existing PostPoint terminal. Games include; Lotto, Dailymillions, Euromillions, Telly Bingo, Winning Streak and All Cash.

Developing online shopping services

With almost 150,000 registered users, the new AddressPal service from An Post has proved particularly popular with online shoppers over the last year. AddressPal allows customers to avail of a UK and USA address which can be used as a postal address for the delivery of UK and USA online orders. Customers can then choose to have the item delivered to their nominated Post Office or tracked and delivered to their home address.

An Post are currently developing a range of services, in addition to AddressPal, which will further help online shoppers collect and return items. Over the coming year An Post plan to extend these services to PostPoint convenience stores for the first time. This will offer online shoppers even more choice in terms of the range and opening hours of collection and return locations.
