Petrotec Group announces the installation of an electric vehicle charger factory in Portugal

The Petrotec Group has announced the construction of a new production unit in Póvoa de Lanhoso, Northern Portugal, dedicated to the manufacture of fast and ultra-fast electric chargers. This investment reinforces the company’s position as a benchmark in the sustainable mobility sector. The facility will manufacture equipment for the Group’s startup, Hellonext, but will also supply other important commercial partners. Production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2024, with 90% of production expected to be exported. This is the Petrotec Group’s fifth industrial unit and will lead to the creation of approximately fifty new jobs in the short term.

Since its founding in 1983, the Petrotec Group has emerged as a European leader in the production of equipment and services for the fuel industry. With 100% Portuguese capital and subsidiaries in nine countries, the company is represented in 84 countries across four continents. The company has more than 1,200 employees and is the industrial and technological partner of some of the world’s largest companies and retailers, with equipment installed in more than 200,000 service stations.

Since 2018, the Petrotec Group has been positioned throughout the mobility value chain, with the Hellonext brand taking on and materializing the strategy of transitioning to a new energy paradigm by providing the market with a wide range of innovative and sustainable solutions in the areas of electric vehicle charging, green hydrogen, and distributed energy resources.

New Industrial Unit to Propel Hellonext in Europe
With around fifty employees, the Petrotec Group’s new factory – the Group’s fifth – will focus on electric chargers. Production is scheduled to start in the second half of 2024. “The works are underway and going according to plan,” acknowledges Nuno Cabral, CEO of the Petrotec Group. According to Nuno Cabral, “in the first phase, the plant will be prepared to manufacture 3,000 fast and ultra-fast chargers a year, mostly for markets such as the United Kingdom, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Iceland, Lithuania, and Romania.”

The factory being set up in Póvoa de Lanhoso also aims to accelerate Hellonext’s positioning as one of the leading European brands in the sector. “It is our aspiration to occupy a central position in the European panorama of ultra-fast electric vehicle chargers by 2030. A new industrial unit is a decisive step in this direction, as it gives us the capacity to respond more quickly to the market,” says Hugo Rigor, Hellonext’s Managing Director.
This project benefits from Petrotec Group’s benchmark technologies in areas such as payment systems, content management, fleet management, and communication with the point of sale (POS), among others.
