Lidl Ireland sees sales growth of 30 per cent during lockdown

In an interview with The Irish Times Lidl’s Irish CEO JP Scally revealed that Lidl Ireland’s sales had grown 30 per cent during lockdown.

While grocery sales grew by 23 per cent overall during the lockdown period, Scally told the paper Lidl had enjoyed more lucrative growth of between “25 and 30 per cent”.

Scally also discussed the future of online shopping.

“There is a lot of talk about online, especially in the media. But people forget that it is only about 3 per cent of the market,” he told the paper. “It is very small. The majority of people don’t use it. The safety measures we have in stores are appreciated. As long as queuing is not a factor, online is not going to have the impact that some commentators might predict.”
