Co-op new store trials with Zuber Issa’s EG On The Move ‘fuels’ broader franchise growth plans
Zuber Issa continues expansion of his forecourt empire with a new forecourt launching in Scotland – the first in Scotland and part of his new franchise agreement with the Co-op.
The new site near Glasgow brings the EG on the Move network to forty sites – a further 11 are planned for the rest of this year – with further ‘ambitious network expansion plans’ in the future.
The new locations south of Glasgow – Nitshill Services – is a 24 hour location with a five-island starter gate pump layout, offering a EG on the Move branded fuel – plus four EG on the ove 250kW electric vehicle ultra fast chargers, a Greggs and drive-thru Starbucks.
The franchise agreement signed with Co-op and the petrol forecourt business, EG On The Move, will trial seven convenience stores across the United Kingdom with the potential to expand in the future.
It’s part of Co-op’s wider franchise growth plans as it announces new targets for significant growth with ambitions to reach over 500 franchise stores by 2030, with a third of those in petrol forecourts.
The Co-operative Group (‘Co-op’) – the UK’s largest consumer co-operative, announced on 9th July that it has signed a new franchise agreement with EG On The Move.
This agreement will initially see seven new Co-op franchise stores open this summer, with the petrol forecourt business, EG On The Move, which has recently announced plans to grow by over 120 sites in the next three years.
This new store growth aligns well with the broader growth ambitions across the Co-op’s core businesses – Food Retail, B2B and Life Services – aiming to broaden reach and scale and reach eight million member owners by 2030.
Co-op has today announced its ambitious plans to scale its award-winning franchise stores to reach over 500 by 2030, across petrol forecourts, universities and convenience.
Co-op already has a strong pipeline of franchise launches planned for 2024, across universities, convenience and also its first stores in NHS Hospitals, providing a range of solutions underpinned by its values, expertise, and operations.
These EG On The Move store developments build on the new Co-op trial format in three petrol stations last year, and the addition of its first Welsh franchise stores at the start of this year.
The new Co-op franchise stores rolled out as part of this agreement with EG On The Move are based across the United Kingdom, and include:
• Doncaster, Ogden Road – opening this week (Thursday, 11 July)
• Billinghurst, Sussex
• Nitshill, Glasgow
• Portlethen, Aberdeenshire
• Macmerry, Tranent, East Lothian
• Wherstead, Ipswich, Suffolk
• Finmere, Tingewick, Buckinghamshire
