Belfast supermarket pleads guilty to health and safety at work offences

Lee Foods Oriental Supermarket was fined at Belfast Magistrates Court on Friday 1 May 2026 after pleading guilty to health and safety at work offences.

The offences related to a workplace accident and the death of Mr. Wei Wang, a warehouse operative employed at the business.

The accident occurred on 15 August 2023 after a fall at the premises and Mr Wang died four days later as a result.

Following an investigation by Belfast City Council’s Health & Safety Unit, Lee Feng Ltd trading as Lee Foods Oriental Supermarket located at 98-108 Donegall Pass, Belfast were fined a total of £100,000, plus costs of £5000.

The investigation also found failings around the supervision of employees which led to unsafe work practices that went unchecked by the company.
