Aldi to sell over €27 million worth of Irish grown potatoes this year

Aldi has announced it will sell €27 million worth of Irish grown potatoes this year, with New Season Irish Potatoes arriving across 142 Aldi stores.  Aldi will be the first retailer to the market with the New Season Potatoes.

O’Shea’s Farms based in Piltown, Co. Kilkenny, together with North County Dublin, based PKS Farms will be supplying the potatoes to Aldi’s stores, with Premier, Home Guard and Queens due on shelf from this Thursday and New Season Roosters to follow in August.

O’Sheas have been working with Aldi since 1999 and PKS Farms since January 2017. Thanks to innovative glasshouse growing and harvesting techniques, O’Shea’s Farm and PKS Farms will deliver the New Season Irish Potatoes to Aldi’s stores on schedule.

Ross Keogh, Director of PKS Farms, commented: “We are delighted to be working with Aldi to bring New Season Irish potatoes to Aldi customers via their 142 stores across Ireland. Without the glasshouse growing and harvesting technique, it would be impossible to bring a crop of Irish potatoes to market this early in the season. The glasshouse crop does not suffer the same fate weather wise as outdoor crops do, because it is a controlled environment in many ways.”
