Tesla ‘Supercharger’ opens at Topaz Ballacolla

The atmosphere was electric in Co Laois today as the world’s fastest charging station, the Tesla Supercharger, launched at Topaz Ballacolla.

The Junction 3 M8 forecourt is the first in Ireland to host the electric motoring technology, and was launched as part of Tesla’s move into the Irish market.

Tesla is one of the world’s most innovative companies, championing a shift to high-performance electric-powered motoring.

The Supercharger can fully charge a Tesla in 30 minutes

The charger can power Tesla vehicles within 30 minutes, and is placed beside Topaz’s Ballacolla service station, where customers have access to 24-hour services and Topaz’s Re.Store retail offer.

Topaz said the launch of the Tesla Supercharger was the latest step in its commitment to improving and developing Ireland’s energy network.

In February this year, Topaz announced it would install and operate Ireland’s first publicly-accessible, fast-fill Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station in Ireland, at Topaz’s Dublin Port service station.

Present at the Tesla Supercharger launch was Topaz fuel director, Gordon Lawlor, who spoke of the importance of the launch to Topaz’s strategic plans for innovation.

“Topaz is proud to be at the forefront of innovation in both fuel and energy in Ireland,” he said. “The launch of the Tesla Supercharger in Ballacolla is yet another sign that we are committed to not only enhancing our customers’ experience, but also to leading the way in providing alternative fuels for the future.”

He added: “As part of this commitment, earlier this year we announced our €1.45m deal with Gas Networks Ireland to install Ireland’s first public CNG re-fuelling station. Today’s launch is another first for Ireland in terms of energy and fuel innovation, and is something Topaz is delighted to be involved in.”

The move follows the launch of Topaz’s miles fuel brand, which is being rolled out across its entire network over the next 12 months.

A full interview with Gordon Lawlor on the rebranding programme will feature in the May / June edition of Ireland’s Forecourt & Convenience Retailer magazine, out in the coming weeks.
