Forecourt Spotlight: Murphy’s Gala Clonroche
IFCR turns the spotlight on Murphy’s Gala Clonroche in Co Wexford, owned by Murphy’s Cash & Carry.
Can you tell us about your store and how long you’ve been with the Gala Group?
As a Gala wholesaler, not only do we service the south eastern region, but we operate our own company operated stores. The store in Clonroche is the most recent addition to our group of stores and has undergone a full refurbishment in the first half of this year.
How has the support of the Gala Group evolved since you became part of the group?
The operational support from the team at the Gala Retail head office and the Fresh Food Innovation team has been significant. Having constant access to best practice advice and continuous support with the development of fresh food concepts has been invaluable.
Gala concepts like Bakers Corner and New Street Deli differentiate us from other groups. These concepts ensure our customer experience is second to none. The recent introduction of a new ice-cream concept and off licence has created strong additional categories within our store and customer feedback is excellent.
Tell us about your customer base
Our store is very much a community store. Along with the traditional range of services we have increased our deli and fresh foods categories, introduced an off licence and expanded our coffee and grocery ranges to meet customer expectations.
What Gala concepts have you implemented in your forecourt store? How has the introduction of Gala concepts been received by your customers?
As part of the recent refurbishment of the store we focused on introducing new concepts and expanding our existing offerings to offer more variety for our customers and to meet their changing requirements. We have seen significant growth in the Bakers Corner and New Street Deli concepts which have proven to be a big hit with customers.
What would you say to retailers who are considering joining the Gala Group?
Meet the team… The Gala team is highly experienced in the convenience retailing sector, offering excellent support services and association with a brand which has contributed to local communities for over 20 years. Their retailer toolbox assists in all aspects of running a successful business – from Operational Best Practices to Marketing and Fresh Foods Supports. In addition to this, Gala offers a face to face service and a local wholesale partner.
What systems have most benefited the day to day running of your store?
The Gala Logistics Ordering System (GLOS) is the chilled central distribution system from Gala, a highly efficient and user-friendly system which offers online ordering, a huge range and ever changing fresh food options in one delivery. Grab & Go and fresh food offerings have become a must have option and along with full access to this range, we have the tools and support through planograms, promotional activity and best practice advice to assist us in ensuring the success of our store.
