It says Russia currently provides around 20% of the crude used in EU refineries and 10% of diesel in the EU.

It says 6.3% of Ireland’s oil and oil products were imported directly from Russia in 2020 but our dependence is more significant for certain products like diesel.

It says the Whitegate refinery in Cork supplies 30-40% of Ireland’s needs and that in 2018, Ireland imported 54% of our oil products from the UK.

However, the IOOA points out that 40% of the UK’s oil products were imported from Russia in 2018.

It warns Ireland may therefore be indirectly affected by a UK ban on Russian oil imports unless the UK sources alternative supplies.
