Applegreen to open Lifford forecourt in June

Applegreen’s latest forecourt is set to open this June in County Donegal.

The service station, situated on the outskirts of Lifford on the Letterkenny Road has been constructed on a greenfield site and will be the county’s second Applegreen services.

Lifford native and Applegreen dealer partner, Conor McGettigan, is behind the build and told local media his team is excited to see the finished product next month.

“Despite the fact that we’re not even open yet, we’ve had a fantastic response from the local community and would like to thank everyone for their support and well wishes,” he told the Tyrone Constitution.

“It means a lot to our family and we’re delighted to be bringing employment to the town.”

Conor said the partnership with Applegreen was a “key factor” in deciding whether or not to take on the project.

Recruitment for site staff has already began, with applications now being accepted for the positions of petrol pump attendant, retail assistant, cook, chef, and office administrator.

News of the build follows Applegreen’s announcement in March that its profits for last year totalled some €125.9m (£100 million), up €30 million (£23.6 million) from the year before.

Like-for-like shop and food sales grew by 6.9 per cent, with related like-for-like gross profit up by 8.9 per cent.

That same year, Applegreen expanded its forecourt portfolio with 48 new sites, including 37 in the Republic of Ireland, eight in the UK, and three in the US.
