Barry Group one of Deloitte’s ‘Best Managed Companies’

Barry Group continued its award winning run in 2016 after the company was named as one of Deloitte’s Best Managed Companies.

The group took a Platinum Standard award at the ceremony in early March, and was one of the only grocery retail businesses to be recognised.

Speaking about the recipients, managing partner of Deloitte, Brendan Jennings, said: “It is clear that these companies make an invaluable contribution to the Irish economy – employing 47,000 people and generating turnover of €10bn. It’s also really encouraging to see such a large number of technology companies among the winners, another indicator of the global reputation Ireland is building as a hub for such activity.”

The award came as Barry Group were named once again as a ‘Great Place to Work’, making it the only wholesale company in Ireland to hold both of these awards at the same time.

MD, Jim Barry was also recently honoured with the Ruban d’Honneur award in the 2015/16 European Business Awards.

The Barry Group has been named as a finalist and Ruban d’Honneur recipient in the 2015/16 European Business Awards sponsored by RSM.

It was chosen from 678 National Champions by an esteemed panel of judges made up of European business and political leaders, academics and entrepreneurs. The company is one of 110 Ruban d’Honneur recipients chosen from across Europe.

The company will now undertake a face-to-face interview with the judges in the hope it will be named as one of the overall winners of the Awards’ 11 categories at a Gala Ceremony in June.

Barry Group is one of the leading wholesale groups in Ireland with over 230 people employed from its state of the art headquarters in Mallow, Co Cork.

Under the leadership of MD Jim Barry, Barry Group is responsible for the Costcutter, Carry Out and Quik Pick franchises and services over 1000 customers both nationally and internationally. Last year the company was named as both a ‘Great Place to Work’ and as one of Deloitte’s Best Managed Companies.

MD Jim Barry was also named as Ireland’s Most Trusted Leader.

The European Business Awards engaged with over 32,000 companies from 33 countries this year, a 33 per cent increase from last year, and a record-breaking number for the competition now in its ninth year.

Adrian Tripp, CEO of the European Business Awards said: “To survive in this economic climate is hard enough, so to innovate, prosper and grow in the way this year’s Ruban d’Honneur recipients have is truly remarkable. Europe needs more companies like these. Well done to Barry Group.”

Barry Group MD Jim Barry said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Barry Group has been named as a Ruban d’Honneur recipient. To be selected in the top ten in Europe for our category is terrific vindication of the work we do as a company. We are always pushing ourselves to offer the very best to our customers and receiving such a prestigious award is great recognition of that work”

Running alongside the independent judging part of the competition is a public vote, which will decide the ‘National Public Champions’ of the competition for each country.
