Maxol has completed an investment of a quarter of a million pounds to refurbish the entire Antrim Road store and forecourt and deliver an enhanced offering for customers.

The shop layout has changed to allow for the addition of new and expanded lines including a SPAR Daily Deli which provides a wide range of hot and cold food throughout the day, including vegan and vegetarian options, to meet growing demand from customers, especially over lunchtime.

The Barista Bar which provides customers with fast, delicious quality coffee on the go has been moved to a more prominent position for ease and speed of access.  The upgrade also allows for new refrigeration and additional dairy and ‘chill for now’ space.

Maxol, Northern Ireland’s award-winning family-owned forecourt and convenience retailer, has also made some changes in the forecourt area, reducing pump islands from three to two and creating additional parking spaces to meet demand at the busiest times of the day.

With finishing touches that include new signage, new lighting and electrics, floor and ceilings, the changes are designed to enhance the shopping experience for those popping in to pick up groceries or food on the go.

Brian Donaldson, CEO of The Maxol Group, said: “We work hard to continuously develop and improve our service stations for the benefit of our customers. With demand for grocery and general shop sales growing significantly at this site during the COVID-19 pandemic we have invested to create a store that is vibrant, modern, and inviting and ensures we can offer a significantly enhanced range in a greatly improved premises. We look forward to welcoming both existing and new customers in store to enjoy everything we have to offer.

“In 2020, we celebrated 100 years of Maxol in Northern Ireland and we are delighted to continue investing in our local service station to create a network of convenience destinations that continues to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers across NI.”

Maxol, Northern Ireland’s leading family-owned forecourt and convenience retailer, has reopened their Portrush service station following a substantial investment of £1.73million. The re-development of the site has created five additional jobs and is part of Maxol’s ongoing commitment to providing quality choice and convenience for customers across Northern Ireland.

Premium grad fuel

It is also the first site in Northern Ireland to offer its new premium grades of fuel. The premium petrol and premium diesel fuels offer customers better performance, better power and acceleration, whilst reducing engine deposits.

Almost doubling in size, Maxol Portrush now provides commuters, holiday makers, local residents and businesses with an extended range of forecourt convenience services and freshly prepared meals seven days a week.

SPAR Daily Deli

Maxol has doubled the size of their SPAR Daily Deli which provides a wide range of hot and cold food throughout the day, including vegan and vegetarian options, to meet increasing customer demand. Barista Bar coffee provides customers with fast, delicious quality coffee on the go while the upgraded, spacious design of the store aims to enhance the shopping experience for those popping in to pick up groceries or food on the go.

A new internal seating area has been created, providing a comfortable, shared space for remote working and for families who want to enjoy a coffee or bit to eat. This area also includes complimentary customer WIFI and mobile phone charging points throughout.

EV Charging

Maxol Portrush also has an updated forecourt with multiple fuel payment options and increased parking capacity for 46 vehicles including 2 EV Charging and 2 coach spaces, all to ensure convenience and ease of access for customers. The forecourt also includes a new totem and canopy design. The Maxol “Blade” Totem is a new sustainable concept which can be easily dismantled and separated into core materials in the future for recycling purposes.

Brian Donaldson, CEO of The Maxol Group, said: “We are continuously looking at how we can develop and improve on our service stations for the benefit of customers. Maxol Portrush is a great example of how we are investing to provide greater choice and convenience for our customers as well as creating jobs for the local community.

Network of convenience destinations

“Last year, we celebrated 100 years of Maxol in Northern Ireland and we are delighted to continue investing in our local service stations. It is our aim to have a network of convenience destinations that will continue to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers across NI.”

Stephen Culbertson, Licensee of Maxol Portrush Service Station said: “We work hard to meet our customers’ needs and to ensure we have the best convenience offering. This significant investment by Maxol puts Portrush at the forefront of retailing and enables us to offer a significantly enhanced retail experience in a state-of-the-art premise. We look forward to welcoming both existing and new customers in store to enjoy everything the newly expanded site has to offer.”
