Premier Lotteries Ireland (PLI), the operator of the National Lottery, has announced its full year results for 2022, which has seen ticket sales return to pre-covid levels, at €884.1 million for the year.

In 2022, on average, €4.9 million was raised for Good Causes each week with €259.5 million raised for the entire year. This is the second highest yearly return for the Good Causes Fund since PLI won the licence to operate the National Lottery in 2014. In that time, PLI has raised over €1.9 billion in Good Causes funding for community groups, individuals and projects throughout Ireland.

PLI’s operating profits for 2022 amounted to €8.2 million, equivalent to 0.92% of sales, while commission payments to National Lottery retailers exceeded €46 million.

1.2 people play every week

On average, approximately 1.2 million people a week enjoyed National Lottery games in 2022. These players helped to support thousands of organisations and groups in towns and villages across Ireland, with approximately 29 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games going directly to Good Causes in 2022.

34 millionaires

In total, an incredible 34 National Lottery players became millionaires in 2022 which included a record-breaking Lotto jackpot win of €19.06 million in Co. Mayo. The biggest winner of the year was a Co. Clare family syndicate who became the latest Irish winners of the EuroMillions jackpot with a win worth over €30.9 million in February 2022.

Andrew Algeo, Chief Executive of Premier Lotteries Ireland, said:

“With over a quarter of a billion euro raised for the Good Causes Fund in 2022, these are a solid set of results, and we are delighted with the continued positive impact on Good Causes right throughout the country.

Pre-Covid levels

“As expected, we saw sales of National Lottery games return to pre-Covid levels with the return to normal life following the end of the pandemic. The National Lottery has put the protection of our players at the forefront of everything we do. PLI maintains a detailed Player Activity Programme that continually seeks to further strengthen player protection controls and promote responsible playing of our games.”

Play National Lottery games responsibly. Play for fun.
