The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has announced the dates for the next in its series of Breakfast Bite webinars, this time focusing on Shelf-life.

The 2022 ‘Breakfast Bite’ webinars are a series of free, informal virtual meetings for food businesses and for people who may be thinking of setting up a food business.

The next webinar in the series: ‘Shelf-life’ will be held on Tuesday, 20th September 2022 from 10:00am – 10:45am.

Participants will hear Mary Lenahan (FSAI) discuss how food businesses can safely set and validate the shelf-life of any food they manufacture.

While the overarching responsibility for food safety rests with food business operators, there is no generic method to estimate and set food shelf-life. Depending on the circumstance, the responsibility may also fall to secondary manufacturers (co-packers) such as re-packers, food caterers, food retail manufacturers and others.

During this webinar, Mary will outline good practice for food businesses and participants will have the chance to ask questions following her presentation.

Encouraging people to sign up for the Breakfast Bite webinar, Dr Pamela Byrne, CEO, FSAI said: “The food industry must have a valid basis for the shelf-life they assign to their food products. Consumers must be able to trust that the food they are buying has been prepared safely and that an accurate shelf-life is indicated.

“By attending this event, food business operators can learn to estimate, set and verify the safety of food over its shelf-life using resources the FSAI has developed for food businesses.

“It is crucial that all food businesses have a strong understanding of their responsibilities in this area to ensure consumer health is protected. This is a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have to ensure your food business is fully compliant with food safety legislation.”

The webinar is free of charge and the link to register can be found here.
